Gwacheon National Science Museum (국립과천과학관)

Gwacheon National Science Museum is located next to Soeul Grand Park in Anyang City, south of Seoul and is one of the biggest science museum in Korea.


The museum includes the main building, the observatory, Insectarium, Planetarium, Space World as well as a various of special exhibitions and outdoor exhibitions.


To start the tour, usually you start with the main building which has 2 floors. This is where you always buy the ticket for the museum and get the map which also includes a recommended visiting courser,





The tour starts with first floor which includes Basic Science exploration Hall which visitors can experience different technologies. Visitors can also explore the proprieties of the lights, earth, air and water in this hall.




Science Future & Fiction Hall Information is also located and the main exhibition in this halla re future jobs and future science civilization, space and science civilization and more.



An exbition about characters from movies which includes aliens and space, super heroes born from different science experiments it can also be seen in this hall




Children’s Experience Center which we didn't visit as it has usually exhibition for children, so this is a good place to visit also for those who have kids.


This time the museum had a special exhibition about viruses, a complete timeline of the pandemics and diseases that were spread around the worls during history, including the current pandemic, COVID-19.


Another exhibition at the first floor includes the exhibition of famous researchers.




The second part of the museum is second floor which includes:





Korean Science and Civilization Hall examines the role of science and technology within Korean civilization.



From King Sejong's studies to the technology of making kimchi and cloth painting, the Korean civilization science brought an important meaning to the international science field as well.





In this hall people can also experience various types of technologies that were used during Korean history. Science and technology lay the foundation for politics, well-being, economy, culture and arts, and the military-the elements that comprise civilization.





Natural History Hall Information The Natural History Section exhibits the 13.8 billion years of the history of space and the Earth.




The Natural History Section features convergence exhibition content that includes actual specimens of extinct creatures; augmented-reality, media-facade, and high-definition wide-video samples; and advanced technology.




The exhibition includes the artifacts from different geological eras, the exhibition of the evolution of the solar system, exhibition of different specimens and so on.





Advance Technology Hall which exhibits various technologies used in our daily life as well as in different domains such as aero-space.






The outside exhibition as I mentioned includes the Planetarium. This one has admission fee 2,000. We had the chance to take part of the last show of that day which shows the Aurora borealis.



There is also the Space World which was closed by that time we arrived, it was opne till 3:30 PM.



There are also rockets that can be seen by visitators and a space lounge as well as a outdoor exhibition of dinosaurs.
